Ant Man Review

Before we get started, let's just take a moment and look at the fact that we have popular movies featuring a talking raccoon, a tree man, and a guy that can shrink to the size of an insect and everyone loves them. Really think about that. It shows that Marvel will take the crazy ideas and make them work, no matter what it is. With that out of the way, let's talk Ant Man.

This movie takes place after the events in Age of Ultron and the movie does a good job of referencing it without bombarding you, as evidenced by seeing the Avengers new base. This movie stars Michael Douglas as Hank Pym and as comics fans know, he was Ant Man for a really long time and was also one of the first Avengers along with The Wasp. In this movie he's been retired and used to work under Shield with Peggy Carter and Howard Stark. With his wife gone, he and having estranged daughter Hope, played by Evangeline Lily; he wants to stop his technology from getting to the hands of Hydra. In order to do this, he hires Scott Lang, played by Paul Rudd to be the new Ant Man in order to retrieve it.

First off. I LOVE this movie! I even loved it more than Age of Ultron. Why?

Superhero movies usually involve the main character trying to save the world or save the city, and while that's cool, it can get a little repetitive.
This movie is a heist job movie with superheroes. How cool is that?
It does an effective job at introducing the new characters and still cement them in the MCU as shown by having Falcon make a cool appearance.

Points across the board for the acting. I was impressed by the use of Scott's friends. What would normally be very annoying characters actually have charm and genuinely good humor.

And the visuals. Oh man the visuals!
This no question has THE most creative use of action scenes. Two characters that can alter their size, command ants, and we get to see them use their surroundings from that small size! If you see it multiple times, I can tell you might find something new each time, just because so much is going on at once!

This also ties in well with the next film, Civil War with the end credits scene with Falcon, Captain America, and Bucky. Yes! BUCKY!

Why do I like it better than Age of Ultron?
Because it's like Guardians of the Galaxy, which I loved better than Winter Soldier last year. It's not because I hated those movies. I enjoyed them! It's just that both Guardians and Ant Man are great feel good movies with humor, action,  interesting characters, a great dialogue. Also they're extremely creative with the use of abilities, team dynamics, and visual effects.

So if you think that Ant Man isn't worth, boy are you wrong! Definitely worth every cent and for seeing multiple times. If you're a Marvel fan and especially if you love Guardians of the Galaxy, this is the movie for you!

Next time: Fantastic Four.
